Collaboration with external organizations

Komatsu is a member of the Japan Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA), and the President of Komatsu serves as Vice Chairman of CEMA. CEMA provides opinions to, and cooperates with, the government when policies and regulations related to construction equipment are formulated. For example, when the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism established its Certification System for Construction Machinery Meeting Fuel Efficiency Standards, CEMA cooperated by providing various data related to construction equipment.

Komatsu is also a member of the Japan Business Council in Europe (JBCE), which aims to contribute to the development of European policies aligned with the Paris Agreement and other relevant frameworks.

Komatsu’s Environmental Management Department collects global information on changes in environmental regulations, including those related to climate change and water, in various countries, as well as trends in related markets, through environmental compliance audits, risk audits, and global environmental meetings. This information is monitored together with public policy trends to confirm that Komatsu’s engagement with public policy is aligned with its strategies and commitments related to environmental matters, including climate change and water. The results of this information collection and analysis are reported to the Sustainability Promotion Committee, which is Komatsu’s decision-making body for environmental measures and meets twice a year. The committee deliberates on various measures, and the results of these deliberations are reflected in Komatsu’s environmental strategies, including those related to climate change and water. If any inconsistency is identified between public policy and Komatsu’s policies or strategies, the committee reviews Komatsu’s policies and strategies. In addition, the matters deliberated and decided by the committee are reported to the Board of Directors.
